Welcome to Grass Roots - Wayanad
Grass Roots is about Ravi, Rachel and Aditya. A coffee planter in Karnataka and then in Papua New Guinea, Ravi retuned to Wayanad to work on the concept of Grass Roots. Ravi and Rachel are from Wayanad and share amazing stories of their early years in Kerala and then life and learning on plantations. Aditya’s interest is music (it is his collection of Jazz that you hear around the dining room) and he loves the outdoors. His enthusiasm while showing you around is contagious.
There is an easy and inclusive hospitality you feel at Grass Roots - time spent around a crackling fire before dinner, jazz in the back ground, hearty home cooked meals.
Stay at Grass Roots is in tents – large, secure, thoughtfully planned, multi-layered to defy the elements. A path leads from the dining room, curving close to the entrance and drive way to pass above, and leading into, the plantation. Five tents, evenly spaced are accessed from this path. Each tent is placed on a high platform, up a short flight of narrow steps, through a quaint gate and to a sheltered sit-out where you would want to spend every minute you are awake. The views are of the tea gardens and the hills of Vythiri and Kuruchermala and the birds. Inside, the bedroom is a wide, canopied, warm space – air-conditioned and furnished with a table and chair, a luggage rack and a beautiful wrought iron double bed. Some tents have solid hard wood beds, nevertheless the beds are deep and comfortable, spotless white and sweet-smelling. A small 'fridge stocks up some refreshments like soft drinks and RO water (bottled water is on sale if required). The Tea/ Coffee station is only a visible convenience for tea or coffee is always sent up fresh and piping hot with a small note – usually a delightful poem!
